Product Feature
1. Composition:
304 stainless steel is an austenitic alloy composed primarily of iron (≥50%), chromium (18-20%), and nickel (8-10.5%). It also contains small amounts of carbon (≤0.08%), manganese (≤2%), phosphorus (≤0.045%), sulfur (≤0.03%), and silicon (≤1%).
2. Corrosion Resistance:
304 stainless steel exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in various environments. It has good resistance to atmospheric corrosion, as well as to many organic and inorganic chemicals. It is particularly resistant to corrosion from acids such as sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid.
3. Strength and Mechanical Properties:
- Tensile Strength: ≥515 MPa (74,700 psi)
- Yield Strength: ≥205 MPa (29,800 psi)
- Elongation: ≥40%
- Hardness (Brinell): ≤201 HB
- Modulus of Elasticity: 193 GPa (28,000 ksi)
4. Heat Resistance:
304 stainless steel has good heat resistance up to temperatures of around 870°C (1,600°F). It retains its strength and mechanical properties at elevated temperatures and is suitable for applications involving moderate heat exposure.
5. Formability and Weldability:
- Formability: 304 stainless steel is highly formable, allowing it to be easily shaped into various configurations. It can be rolled, bent, and formed without significant cracking or weakening.
- Weldability: It exhibits excellent weldability, enabling seamless joining with other components through various welding techniques such as TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding and MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding.
Advantages:
- Excellent corrosion resistance, ensuring longevity and reliability in various environments.
- Good strength and mechanical properties, suitable for structural and industrial applications.
- Versatile formability, allowing for customization and flexibility in design.
- High weldability, facilitating seamless integration with other components.
- Wide availability and relatively lower cost compared to some other stainless steel grades.
Disadvantages:
- Lower resistance to chloride environments compared to some other stainless steel grades, which can lead to localized corrosion.
- Susceptible to pitting corrosion in aggressive environments containing chlorides.
- Limited high-temperature strength compared to some other heat-resistant alloys.
