How Laser Engraving Works:
Laser engraving is a process that vaporizes materials into fumes to engrave permanent, deep marks. The laser beam acts as a chisel, incising marks by removing layers from the surface of the material.
The process of doing laser engraving in different material is not the same.
The CO2 laser and fiber laser is more often used for etching or engraving on the plastic such as PC, Acrylic, POM, Delrin. However PVC, ABS and HDPE cannot be laser engraved because they are easily to catch fire in the laser engraving process.

For stainless steel's laser engraving, the right techniques must be used to protect its corrosion resistance. Laser annealing leaves a permanent mark directly on stainless steel, it can be done using a metal laser marking machine. Laser annealing chemically modifies the steel located under the chromium oxide layer.
Below is the example of laser engraving on stainless steel:

Customers also very often to laser engraving their logo on anodizing aluminum parts. Sometime, steel material is also chosen to do laser the logo.
