How to design internal radius for CNC milling machined parts? How to design slot width for CNC milling parts? How to select milling tool for CNC milling machining?

When designing a milling workpiece, there are important factors to consider that will help optimize the machining process and ensure efficient production and reduce costs. These factors include internal radius, internal slots, and tool selection.

1.Internal Radius:

When determining the internal radius of a milling workpiece, it's important to consider the desired finish and strength of the final product. A larger radius will produce a smoother finish and slightly stronger part, while a smaller radius will get machining speed lower and even can not get good surface because poor strength of small milling tool. The internal radius should also be large enough to accommodate the tool that will be used for the machining process.

Firstly must check machining depth. The internal radius size usually design to 1/6 of depth. Because diameter and length of common machining tool is three to one. For example, If some slot depth is 12.0mm, Internal radius size should be not smaller than R2.0.

Secondly, sharp internal corners should be avoided as they require additional process to do. It will enlarge machining difficulty, leading to increased more costs and longer lead times.

Thirdly, If must small internal radius to ensure functions. Will purchase extended cutting tools to do. Meantime tools is easy to break. machining time will get longer. So the cost will increase more.

Finally, Reasonable internal radius are appropriately designed based on the material type, depth and machining tools size. It is very important to cost savings, enhanced machining ability and fast production time.

2.Internal Slots:

Internal slots can be created in a milling workpiece to allow for various applications, such as the insertion of fasteners. When designing internal slots, it's important to consider the size and shape of the slot, as well as the tool that will be used for the machining process. A larger slot may require a larger tool to achieve a precise cut, while a smaller slot may require a more specialized tool to avoid damaging the workpiece. Usually we must check slot depth first. Slot width is not less then 1/3 of depth

3.Tool Selection:

Selecting the right tool is essential for successful milling. The tool size and shape should be selected based on the design of the workpiece, including the internal radius and slots. A larger tool may be necessary for larger radius and slots, while a smaller tool may be necessary for tighter radius and slots. Choosing the right tool will ensure a high-quality finished product while minimizing the risk of damage to the workpiece.

In conclusion, designing a milling workpiece with consideration to internal radius, internal slots, and tool selection will help optimize the machining process and ensure efficient production. Thereby reducing cost and increasing product competitiveness.
