Custom CNC engraved metal nameplate: How to choose machining processing

Aug 24, 2023Leave a message

Customized aluminum nameplates

are widely used due to their lightweight and the ability to create various colors according to customer requirements. Different processing methods can be used depending on the thickness. For thicknesses between 0.5-2.0mm, laser cutting is usually used for complex shapes with small angles and lower appearance requirements for the surrounding area. Laser cutting is efficient and cost-effective. For thicknesses greater than 2.0mm and higher appearance requirements, machining is the preferred method to achieve a beautiful appearance quality, although the cost is higher and the efficiency is lower compared to laser cutting. Surface treatment such as brushing, polishing, sand blasting and oxidation can be used to create various beautiful aluminum nameplates as needed.

Stainless steel nameplate

processing is favored by people because of its unique metallic texture, and it has always been preferred to appear in its original form. For plates below 1.5mm, laser cutting is usually used followed by polishing the burrs around the edges, and then drawing to ensure a good 2B surface effect, or polishing to achieve a bright surface treatment. For stainless steel plates above 1.0-2.0mm, a combination of laser cutting and machining methods is generally used to balance efficiency and quality, resulting in high-quality and moderately priced stainless steel nameplates.

Copper plaques

are processed using copper, which has good processing performance. Different processing techniques are usually selected based on the thickness of the copper. Plates with a thickness below 1.5mm are directly processed using laser cutting, while those above 1.5mm are processed using CNC. Copper also has a unique high-end metallic texture, but it is prone to oxidation and blackening. Therefore, it is generally treated with varnish after wire drawing or polished and electroplated, or polished and vacuum plated to achieve the desired color.

Titanium alloy

plaque processing is usually used for making portable plaques due to its light weight and excellent strength. Because the surface of the titanium alloy plate is not very aesthetically pleasing, we usually use machining methods to process it. Due to the stable performance of titanium alloys, they are not easily discolored. Generally, the machined texture effects, sandblasting surface treatments, or PVD electroplating surface treatments are used.
