Structure of anodic oxide film The anodic oxide film consists of two layers, the outer layer is called the porous layer, which is thicker, loose and porous, and has low resistance. The inner layer is called the barrier layer (also known as the active layer), which is thin, dense and high in resistance.

A porous outer layer is grown on a dense inner layer with dielectric properties.
